Major Losers in Trading on November 30; YUM, MDRX, VRSN, ZUMZ

Shares of Yum! Brands Inc. (NYSE: YUM), a quick service restaurant company, are sinking in trading today. At last check, YUM shares were trading 9.27% lower at $67.57 on above average volume of 13.86 million. The stock fell to an intra-day low of $66.98 in trading today.

YUM shares have plunged in trading today after the company said that its same-store sales in China will fall in the fourth quarter. The company expects same-store sales in China to fall 4% in the fourth quarter, compared to a gain of 21% reported for the same period in the previous year.

Shares of Genesco Inc. (NYSE: GCO), a retailer and wholesaler of footwear, apparel, and accessories, are down sharply in trading today. At last check, GCO shares were trading 8.44% lower at $55.46 on above average volume of 1.12 million. The stock fell to an intra-day low of $54.64 in trading today.

GCO shares are sinking after the company reported its third-quarter financial results. For the quarter ended October 27, 2012, GCO reported earnings from continuing operations of $41 million, or $1.71 per share, compared to $26.2 million, or $1.09 per share reported for the same period in the previous year. The company’s net sales for the quarter were $664.5 million, compared to $616.5 million reported for the same period in the previous year.

Robert J. Denis, Chairman, President and CEO of Genesco, said that the company’s third-quarter results were highlighted by strong earnings growth as the company was able to meaningfully leverage expenses on a mid-single digit comparable store sales gain.

Shares of Allscripts Healthcare Solutions Inc. (NASDAQ: MDRX), a provider of clinical, financial, connectivity and information solutions and related professional services to hospitals, physicians, and post-acute organizations, have plunged in trading today. At last check, MDRX shares were trading 10.23% lower at $11.15 on above average volume of 6.71 million. The stock fell to an intra-day low of $8.84 in trading today.

Shares of Verisign Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN), a provider of Internet infrastructure services, are down sharply in trading today. At last check, VRSN shares were trading 13.43% lower at $34.06 on above average volume of 39.36 million. The stock fell to an intra-day low of $32.81 in trading today.

VRSN shares are sinking in trading today as the company’s renewed agreement to serve as the authoritative operator for the .com registry says that it no longer has the right to four price increases of up to 7% over the six-year term.

Shares of Zumiez Inc. (NASDAQ: ZUMZ), a specialty retailer of action sports related apparel footwear, equipment, and accessories operating under the Zumiez brand name, are marginally lower in trading today. At last check, ZUMZ shares were trading 0.77% lower at $20.59 on above average volume of 2.32 million. The stock fell to a 52-week low of $18.58 in trading today.

ZUMZ shares have fallen today after the company reported its third-quarter financial results. For the quarter ended October 27, 2012, ZUMZ reported total net sales of $180 million, compared to $154 million reported for the same period in the previous year. Comparable store sales for the third quarter rose 3.7%. The company reported third-quarter net income of $12.7 million, or $0.40 per share, down from $14.1 million, or $0.45 per share reported for the same period in the previous year.
