Major Gainers and Movers in Early Trading on November 12; GILD, JCP, CIM, ET, PTR

Shares of Gilead Sciences Inc. (NASDAQ: GILD), a research-based biopharmaceutical company engaged in the discovery, development and commercialization of medicines, are seeing a huge rally in early trading today. At last check, GILD shares were trading 12.08% higher at $72.86 on above average volume of 10.39 million. The stock hit a 52-week high of $73.25 in early trading today.

GILD shares are soaring in trading today after the company over the week announced interim data from the ongoing Phase 2 ELECTRON study examining a 12-week course of therapy with the investigational nucleotide sofosbuvir, the NS5A inhibitor GS-5885 and ribavirin in patients with genotype 1 chronic hepatitis C virus infection. GILD reported a 100% sustained virologic response rate (SVR4) for an Interferon-free regimen of sofosbuvir, GS-5885 and rivavirin in treatment-NA ive genotype 1 Hepatitis C infected patients.

Shares of J.C. Penney Company Inc. (NYSE: JCP), a retailer operating 1,102 department stores in 49 states and Puerto Rico, are continuing to slide in trading today. At last check, JCP shares were trading 9.01% lower at $18.78 on above average volume of 9.42 million. The stock hit a 52-week low of $18.73. JCP has fallen more than 17% in the last three trading sessions.

JCP shares are sinking after the company last Friday reported yet another quarterly loss. JCP reported a net loss of $123 million, or $0.56 per share for the quarter ended October 27, 2012. Excluding one-time items, the company reported a loss of $203 million, or $0.93 per share. The company’s comparable store sales for the quarter tumbled 26.1%, while total sales fell 26.6%.

Shares of Chimera Investment Corporation (NYSE: CIM), a specialty finance company that invests either directly or indirectly through its subsidiaries in residential mortgage-backed securities, residential mortgage loans, commercial mortgage loans, real estate-related securities and various other asset classes, are soaring in early trading today.

At last check, CIM shares were trading 6.67% higher at $2.72 on above average volume of 11.18 million. The stock hit an intra-day high of $2.76.

Shares of ExactTarget Inc. (NYSE: ET), a global provider of cross-channel, interactive marketing software-as-a-service solutions, are sinking in early trading today. At last check, ET shares were trading 9.22% lower at $18.41 on above average volume of 605,784. The stock fell to a 52-week low of $18.34 in early trading today.

ET shares have been falling after the company last Friday reported its third-quarter financial results. For the third quarter ended September 30, 2012, ET reported revenue of $74.7 million, representing an increase of 35% over the same period in the previous year. The company’s recurring subscription revenue for the quarter was $57.9 million. ET reported a net loss of $0.7 million for the third quarter, compared to $22.3 million reported for the same period in the previous year.

Shares of PetroChina Company Limited (ADR) (NYSE: PTR), a Beijing-based company engaged in the production and sale of oil and gas related products, are gaining in trading today. At last check, PTR shares were trading 0.62% higher at $133.27 on volume of 18,712. The stock rose to an intra-day high of $133.86. PTR shares have fallen 1.4% in the last three trading sessions.
