Major Gainers and Losers in Early Trading on October 12; JBHT, AMD, LXRX, WFC

Shares of J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. (NASDAQ: JBHT), a provider of surface transportation and delivery services to a diverse group of customers and consumers throughout the continental U.S., Canada and Mexico, are soaring in trading today.

At last check, JBHT shares were trading 7.01% higher at $58.63 on volume of 21,615. The stock hit an intra-day high of $59 in early trading today.

JBHT shares are soaring in trading today after the company reported its third-quarter financial results. For the third quarter, the company reported net earnings of $78.2 million, or $0.65 per share, compared to $68.7 million, or $0.57 per share reported for the same period in the previous year.

JBHT’s total operating revenue for the quarter was $1.3 billion, compared to $1.17 billion reported for the same period in the previous year. Operating income for the quarter was $133 million, compared to $119 million reported for the same period in the previous year.

Shares of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NYSE: AMD), a global semiconductor company offering x86 microprocessors, as standalone devices or as incorporated as an accelerated processing unit, embedded microprocessors, and chipsets for desktop and mobile devices, are sinking in early trading today.

At last check, AMD shares were trading 8.75% lower at $2.92 on volume of 22.39 million. The stock hit a 52-week low of $2.86 in early trading today.

AMD shares are sinking after the company announced its preliminary third-quarter financial results. The company said that revenue for the third quarter ended September 30, 2012 is expected to decrease approximately 10% on a sequential basis. This is worse than the company’s forecast. Gross margin for the third quarter is expected to be approximately 31%, which is well below the previous expectation of approximately 44%.

Shares of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: LXRX), a biopharmaceutical company engaged in the discovery and development of breakthrough treatments for human diseases, are rallying in trading today.

At last check, LXRX shares were trading 8.37% higher at $2.59 on volume of 386,312. The stock hit an intra-day high of $2.70 in trading today.

LXRX shares are soaring in trading today after the company announced positive, top-line data from a recently completed Phase 2 study in carcinoid syndrome with telotristat etiprate. The company said that the results from the trial will be presented at the North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society on Saturday, October 13, 2012 in San Diego, California.

Dr. Arthur T. Sands, President and CEO of Lexicon Pharmaceuticals, said that the positive results from the second Phase 2 trial telotristat etiprate further support its potential utility in the treatment of carcinoid syndrome in a population that is refractory to or cannot tolerate current therapies.

Shares of Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE: WFC), a bank holding company providing retail, commercial and corporate banking services through banking stores and offices, the Internet and other distribution channels to individuals, businesses and institutions in 50 states, the District of Columbia and in other countries, are down sharply in trading today.

At last check, WFC shares were trading 2.36% lower at $34.35 on volume of 14.75 million. The stock hit an intra-day low of $33.65 in early trading.

WFC shares are falling after the company reported its third-quarter financial results. For the third quarter of 2012, WFC reported net income of $4.9 billion, representing an increase of 27% over the same period in the previous year. Revenue for the quarter was $21.2 billion.
