Major Gainers and Losers on October 4; NIHD, INFA, MFRM, HMSY, ACI, ISCA

Shares of NII Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: NIHD), a holding company for the operations of Nextel Communications Inc. in selected international markets, are seeing a huge rally in trading today. At last check, NIHD shares were trading 7.54% higher at $8 on volume of 6.01 million. The stock hit an intra-day high of $8.58.

NIHD today announced that it appointed Juan Figuereo as its Executive Vice President and CFO, effective October 17, 2012. Figuereo will replace Gokul Hemmady, who was recently appointed as NIHD’s COO.

Shares of Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ: INFA), an independent provider of enterprise data integration and data quality software and services, are sinking in trading today. At last check, INFA shares were trading 23.67% lower at $25.67 on above average volume of 17.35 million. The stock hit an intra-day low of $23.83 in trading today.

INFA shares are sinking after the company issued guidance for the third quarter that fell below analysts’ estimates. INFA expects total revenue for the third quarter to be between $189 million and $191 million, compared to analysts’ estimate of $201 million. Non-GAAP earnings per share for the quarter are expected to be between $0.25 and $0.27, which is well below the consensus forecast of $0.34.

Shares of Mattress Firm Holding Corp. (NASDAQ: MFRM), a specialty retailer of mattresses and related products and accessories in the U.S., are soaring in trading today. At last check, MFRM shares were trading 9.18% higher at $32.95 on above average volume of 2.92 million. The stock hit an intra-day high of $33.15 in trading today.

MFRM today announced the pricing of the public offering by certain of its stockholders of 4,726,682 shares of MFRM common stock. The company said that the stock will be sold at a public offering price of $29.85 per share.

Shares of HMS Holdings Corp. (NASDAQ: HMSY), a provider of cost containment services to government and private healthcare payers and sponsors, are sinking in trading today. At last check, HMSY shares were trading 13.34% lower at $27.94 on above average volume of 6.14 million. The stock hit an intra-day low of $26.81.

HMSY shares are sinking in trading today after the company lowered its full-year guidance, citing lower-than-expected growth related to its benefit coordination business along with other delays.

Shares of Arch Coal Inc. (NYSE: ACI), a coal producer, are soaring in trading today. At last check, ACI shares were trading 7.58% higher at $6.67 on above average volume of 16.52 million. The stock hit an intra-day high of $6.75 in trading today.

Shares of International Speedway Corporation (NASDAQ: ISCA), owner of motorsports entertainment facilities and promoter of motorsports themed entertainment activities in the U.S., are down sharply in trading today. At last check, ISCA shares were trading 10.65% lower at $25.42 on above average volume of 400,924. The stock hit an intra-day low of $25.

ISCA shares are sinking after the company reported its third-quarter financial results. For the quarter ended August 31, 2012, ISCA reported total revenue of $115.9 million, compared to revenue of nearly $150.3 million reported for the same period in the previous year. The company’s operating income for the quarter was $0.7 million, compared to $20.5 million reported for the same period in the previous year.
