Major Gainers and Losers on September 11th; SNSS, UNFI, RFMD, SHFL, NAVB, AMD, PANW

Shares of Sunesis Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: SNSS), a biopharmaceutical company engaged in the development and commercialization of oncology therapeutics for the treatment of solid and hematologic cancers, surged in trading today after the company announced that it will implement a one-time, 225-patient sample size increase in its Phase 3 VALOR trial.

SNSS shares rose to a 52-week high of $4.02 in trading today before paring some of the gains to finish the day 32.20% higher at $3.49 on above average volume of 8.62 million. Year-to-date, SNSS shares have gained 198.29%, outperforming the S&P 500.

Shares of United Natural Foods Inc. (NASDAQ: UNFI), a distributor of natural, organic and specialty foods and non-food products in the U.S. and Canada, fell sharply in trading today after the company gave a weaker-than-expected profit outlook for fiscal year 2013.

UNFI shares fell to an intra-day low of $53.35 in trading today before finishing the day 8.60% lower at $55.24 on above average volume of 1.82 million. Year-to-date, UNFI shares have gained 38.07%, outperforming the S&P 500.

Shares of RF Micro Devices Inc. (NASDAQ: RFMD), a Greensboro, North Carolina-based company engaged in the design and manufacture of radio frequency components and compound semiconductor technologies, soared in trading today.

RFMD shares rose to an intra-day high of $4.22 in trading today before finishing the day 8.97% higher at $4.13 on above average volume of 9.33 million. Year-to-date, RFMD shares have fallen 23.52%, underperforming the S&P 500.

Shares of Shuffle Master Inc. (NASDAQ: SHFL), a global gaming supplier operating in four segments, fell sharply in trading today after the company’s quarterly results missed Street estimates.

SHFL shares fell to an intra-day low of $14.18 in trading today before finishing the day 4.67% lower at $14.71 on above average volume of 1.92 million. Year-to-date, SHFL shares have gained 25.51%, outperforming the S&P 500.

Shares of Navidea Biopharmaceuticals Inc. (AMEX: NAVB), a biopharmaceutical company engaged in the development and commercialization of precision diagnostic agents, tumbled in trading today after the company received a Complete Response Letter from the FDA in connection with its Lymphoseek Injection New Drug Application (NDA).

NAVB shares fell to an intra-day low of $2.28 in trading today before finishing the day 24.79% lower at $2.64 on above average volume of 9.03 million. Year-to-date, NAVB shares have fallen 32.13%, underperforming the S&P 500.

Shares of Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NYSE: AMD), a global semiconductor company, saw a huge rally in trading today after the company announced that it signed a strategic licensing agreement with RealD Inc.

AMD shares rose to an intra-day high of $3.77 in trading today before finishing the day 8.07% higher at $3.75 on above average volume of 33.04 million. Year-to-date, AMD shares have fallen 30.56%, underperforming the S&P 500.

Shares of Palo Alto Networks Inc. (NYSE: PANW), a provider of network security platform that allows enterprises, service providers, and government entities to secure their networks, tumbled in trading today after the company reported its fourth-quarter financial results.

PANW shares fell to an intra-day low of $64.33 in trading today before finishing the day 7.18% lower at $66.60 on above average volume of 3.02 million. PANW shares have gained 25.35% since the company completed its IPO in July this year.
