Toy maker, Hasbro Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS) and video game console maker, Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) announced on Tuesday that the both companies have entered in a 4-year agreement, under which, Electronic Arts will create former’s best-selling games for mobile platform.
According to the agreement, Electronic Arts will continue to develop mobile games for popular Hasbro brands such as Risk, Yahtzee, The Game of Life, Battleship, Boggle, Scrabble and Monopoly.
Commenting over the deal, Mark Blecher, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Digital Gaming and Corporate Development at Hasbro said in a statement, “Over the past six years, Hasbro and EA have collaborated to develop some of the most popular digital games based on Hasbro’s best-selling global game brands, including MONOPOLY, SCRABBLE and THE GAME OF LIFE.”
“The next phase of our relationship will build on this tremendous success and is specifically focused on leveraging Hasbro’s rich game brands with EA’s leadership in the mobile space. Our relationship with EA for mobile is an integral component of our digital strategy for developing Hasbro brands across gaming platforms,” added Blecher.
For Electronic Arts, the agreement comes at right time, given the fact that it shuttered three social online games on Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) due to dwindling demand for its games on FB’s platform.
Earlier in April, Electronic Arts had said that it will pull out three games from Facebook platform, which included, SimCity Social, Sims Social and Pet Society.
“After millions of people initially logged in to play these games, the number of players and amount of activity has fallen off. For people who have seen other recent shutdowns of social games, perhaps this is not surprising, Electronic Arts posted at its BlogSpot, at that moment.
