Shares of VMware Inc. (NYSE: VMW), a provider of virtualization and virtualization-based cloud infrastructure solutions, have plunged in early trading today after the company gave a disappointing outlook. The company also reported its fourth-quarter financial results.
VMW said that it expects its revenue growth to slow in 2013. The company also announced that it will cut around 900 jobs from certain departments.
VMW shares fell to a 52-week low of $76.33 in early trading today. At last check, the stock was down 19.05% to $79.59 on above average volume of 4.87 million.
Another major loser in early trading today is BMC Software Inc. (NASDAQ: BMC), a Houston, Texas-based company providing IT management solutions for large, mid-sized and small enterprises and public sector organizations around the world.
BMC Software shares have also plunged after the company gave a weak outlook for its current fiscal year. The company also reported an 11% drop in its third-quarter earnings.
BMC shares fell to an intra-day low of $40 in early trading today. At last check, the stock was trading 8.36% lower at $40.76 on volume of 399,269.
Shares of Boston Scientific Corporation (NYSE: BSX), a developer, manufacturer and marketer of medical devices that are used in a range of interventional medical specialties, are soaring in trading today even as the company reported a drop in its fourth-quarter profit.
For the fourth quarter, Boston Scientific reported a profit of $60 million, or $0.04 per share, down from $107 million, or $0.07 per share reported for the same period in the previous year. The sharp decline in profit was due to restructuring-related charges and other items. Excluding one-time items, BSX reported earnings of $0.18 per share, up from $0.13 per share reported for the same period in the previous year. Revenue for the quarter fell 1.5% to $1.821 billion.
For the first quarter of 2013, BSX expects earnings to be between $0.64 per share and $0.70 per share and revenue to be between $7.05 billion and $7.35 billion. This compares to the consensus forecast of earnings of $0.43 per share and revenue of $7.12 billion.
BSX shares rose to a 52-week high of $7.43 in early trading today. At last check, the stock was up 5.76% to $7.26 on volume of 13.49 million.
Shares of automaker Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) fell sharply in early trading today even as the company reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter earnings. The stock fell as the company warned of bigger losses in Europe.
At last check, Ford shares were trading 3.85% lower at $13.25 on volume of 20.39 million. The stock fell to an intra-day low of $13.16 in early trading today.
Shares of Beazer Homes USA Inc. (NYSE: BZH), an Atlanta, Georgia-based diversified homebuilder, have risen sharply in early trading today after the company reported its first-quarter financial results.
BZH shares rose to an intra-day high of $19.15 in early trading today before paring some of the gains. At last check, the stock was trading 3.52% higher at $18.82 on volume of 372,770.
