Major Gainers and Losers in Early Trading on October 16; C, GS, TXI, ISIS, DPZ, GWW

Shares of Citigroup Inc. (NYSE: C), a global diversified financial services company providing consumers, corporations, governments and institutions with a broad range of financial products and services, are gaining in trading today.

At last check, Citi shares were trading 0.93% higher at $37 on above average volume of 40.01 million. The stock hit an intra-day high of $36.97 in trading today.

Citigroup today announced that Vikram Pandit has stepped down as the company’s CEO and as a member of the Board, effective immediately. Citi’s Board elected Michael Corbat as the new CEO. Pandit’s resignation comes a day after Citigroup reported better-than-expected third-quarter financial results.

Shares of Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE: GS), a global investment banking, securities and investment management firm providing a range of financial services, are marginally higher in early trading today. At last check, GS shares were trading 0.29% higher at $124.86 on volume of 1.54 million. The stock hit an intra-day high of $125.75.

GS shares are gaining after the company reported its third-quarter financial results. For the quarter ended September 30, 2012, GS reported net revenue of $8.35 billion and net earnings of $1.51 billion. Lloyd C. Blankfein, Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs, said that the third-quarter’s performance was generally solid in the context of a still challenging economic environment. Blankfein further said that GS continues to be disciplined in managing its operations and capital, while effectively serving its clients’ needs.

Shares of Texas Industries Inc. (NYSE: TXI), a supplier of heavy construction materials in southwestern U.S., are soaring in trading today. At last check, TXI shares were trading 5.22% higher at $43.34 on volume of 1,400. The stock hit an intra-day high of $44.06 in early trading today.

Shares of ISIS Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: ISIS), a biotechnology company focusing on the antisense technology, are sinking in early trading today. At last check, ISIS shares were trading 13.38% lower at $11.39 on above average volume of 1.79 million. The stock fell to an intra-day low of $10.95.

Shares of Domino’s Pizza Inc. (NYSE: DPZ), a pizza delivery company in the U.S., are soaring in today’s trading. At last check, DPZ shares were trading 8.29% higher at $41.41 on above average volume of 1.03 million. The stock hit an intra-day high of $41.50 in trading today.

DPZ shares are soaring in trading today after the company reported its third-quarter financial results. For the third quarter ended September 9, 2012, DPZ’s domestic stores posted same store sales growth of 3.3%. The company’s international division posted same store sales growth of 5%. On an adjusted basis, the company’s diluted earnings per share for the quarter were $0.43, representing an increase of 22.9% over the same period in the previous year.

Shares of W.W. Grainger Inc. (NYSE: GWW), a distributor of maintenance, repair and operating supplies and other related products and services used by businesses and institutions primarily in the U.S. and Canada, are down sharply in trading today.

At last check, GWW shares were trading 5.76% lower at $203.42 on volume of 231,812. The stock hit an intra-day low of $200.80.

GWW shares are falling after the company reported its third-quarter financial results. For the quarter ended September 30, 2012, GWW reported sales of $2.3 billion, representing an increase of 8% over the same period in the previous year.
